Friday will be D-day for a decision on whether Hinchinbrook heads to the $1 million Golden Rose.

Trainer Gerald Ryan said he had not pulled the pin on a start in the Group One race on August 28 although he conceded it was only a slim hope.

"I've entered him for a barrier trial on Friday," Ryan said.

"If he trials then he will be going to the Golden Rose, if he doesn't trial then he won't.

"He'll tell me this week. I'll just let things happen, I can't make them happen.

"At this stage he's still a slim hope for the Golden Rose."

Hinchinbrook was a non-starter in Saturday's Starlight Stakes when he was found to have a temperature on race morning.

As a result, the dual stakeswinner eased in pre-post Golden Rose betting from $9 equal favouritism to $13.

In reshaped Golden Rose markets, Masquerader ($4.60) on Monday displaced Toorak Toff ($5) as favourite with Saturday's Run To The Rose winner Squamosa on the third line of betting at $11.

Ryan's concentration this weekend will be on another three-year-old race, the Up and Coming Stakes at Warwick Farm.

He has entered Intertidal and Top Drop but still has not decided if the latter will run.

"Intertidal will definitely run but Top Drop probably won't," Ryan said.

"Top Drop is still in the Golden Rose. If it looks like he's not going to get in then he'll run at Randwick on Tuesday."

Both Intertidal and Top Drop are by Snitzel who Ryan trained to win the 2005 Up And Coming Stakes over Golden Slipper winner Stratum.

"They've both got a bit to do to get anywhere near him," Ryan said.

Snitzel's career highlight came the following autumn when he won the Group One Oakleigh Plate.

He and Stratum battled it out for first season sires' honours in 2009-10 with the latter coming out on top.

Intertidal is out of Miss Rainmaker who Ryan trained to two wins in her brief career. He also prepared her sire Hurricane Sky to win the Blue Diamond Stakes.

There were 18 entries taken for the Up And Coming Stakes in Monday including AJC Champagne Stakes winner Skilled and Golden Slipper runner-up Decision Time.
