Lee Freedman has nominated three fillies in a bid to win his eighth Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Romneya, Sugar Babe and Charzoo will fly the flag for the stable in the 1600m feature which Freedman last won three years ago with Serenade Rose who followed successive victories by Special Harmony (2003) and Alinghi (2004).

Other winners for Freedman have been Azzurro (1992), Love Of Mary (1994), Rose Of Danehill (1997), and Ugachaka (2001).

Freedman said there was little between Romneya and Sugar Babe who were second and third respectively in the Group Three Tranquil Star Stakes (1400m) won by Ortensia who will miss the rest of the spring after being struck down with an infected tendon.

Romneya, who has won three of her six starts, has posted two of her three seconds this campaign behind Taameer and Caulfield Guineas hope Lord Tavistock.

Sugar Babe kicked off her spring carnival with victory in the McNeil Stakes (1200m) two starts ago.

Chazoo' has won two of her five starts albeit in much lesser grade than her stablemates.

Trainer David Hayes won the Edward Manifold for the first time last year and has entered Arms Wide Open and Oval Affair on Saturday.

Oval Affair has been unplaced at her two spring runs since winning the Group Three Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in the autumn.

Arms Wide Open has won two of her six starts and finished strongly when fifth to Lord Tavistock in the Henry Bucks Best Dressed Plate (1400m) at Flemington on September 6.
