Descarado has firmed to $12 to add the Melbourne Cup to his Caulfield Cup victory but last year's winner Shocking and So You Think hold sway as equal favourites.

The two are at $5 with a decision on So You Think's participation in the Melbourne Cup to be made after his defence of the Cox Plate on Saturday.

Shocking was an eye-catching fourth in the Caulfield Cup after getting a long way back as Michael Rodd kept him out of trouble which occurred early in the race.

Visiting jockey Gerald Mosse, who rode Hong Kong stayer Mr Medici into sixth place, was suspended for causing interference to Faint Perfume.

He will miss the ride on Americain in Wednesday's Geelong Cup and will be replaced by Damien Oliver.

French horse Americain is a $21 chance for the Melbourne Cup.

He will be joined at Geelong by the Luca Cumani-trained Drunken Sailor who missed the Caulfield Cup due to a slight stone bruise.

He was an emergency but would have gained a start after the withdrawals of Mourayan, Zabrasive and Jessicabeel.

After being buffeted early, Faint Perfume failed to gather momentum and over-raced with blinkers and finished second last.

"I couldn't control her at all," jockey Glen Boss said.

The mare is now out to $26 after being one of the favoured runners when betting opened in August.

Chief handicapper Greg Carpenter will issue a Melbourne Cup penalty to Descarado on Monday.

The Dermot Weld-trained Profound Beauty, who finished fifth in the 2008 Cup, will be among the international horses to work at the Werribee quarantine centre on Monday morning.
