Progressive mare Cabernet is about to audition for a place on trainer Grahame Begg's strongest-ever autumn carnival team.

Cabernet takes a minor leap in class against her own sex at Randwick on Saturday and only needs to produce an eye-catching run to convince Begg she is worth a shot at black-type racing.

"If she runs as well as I expect I'll give her an ease up and get her ready for the autumn," Begg said.

Cabernet is chasing a city hat-trick after she weaved an inside path to topple Flying Success at Rosehill on December 11.

"Winning on Saturday will help get her rating up and hopefully she will be able to sneak into some stakes races," Begg said.

"Although she's won three city races, it's important to get some black type against her name and she deserves her chance."

Begg is assembling a potent autumn team dominated by fillies and mares.

Flight Stakes winner Secret Admirer had her first piece of serious work since returning to stable life when she galloped on the Randwick B grass on Wednesday.

Secret Admirer's main autumn target could be the Doncaster Mile with Begg thinking a genuinely-run 1600m will suit the filly's come-from-behind racing style.

Palacio De Cristal is another established Begg star in work while the trainer has high hopes for restricted-class fillies Triple Six and Dreamworker.

Dreamworker stepped out once as a two-year-old and finished down the track in Listed company at Randwick during this year's autumn carnival.

"She pulled up sore and I had to turn her out," Begg said.

Dreamworker is the second foal from Wakeful Stakes winner Timbourina, the dam of World War, a city winner for Begg.
