An empty feed bin was all Sydney trainer Con Karakatsanis wanted before committing Black Piranha to an extended Queensland campaign.

Black Piranha, rated by his trainer as a tragedy beaten in the Magic Millions Cup on Saturday, is among 34 nominations for the Sunshine Coast Cup on Sunday.

"I was waiting to see how he pulled up after Saturday before deciding if we would stay on," Karakatsanis said.

"He hasn't taken any harm out of the run at all so I nominated him first thing."

After winning the Goldmarket Handicap on the Gold Coast on New Year's Day, Black Piranha came from the tail of the field to finish second to Masai Pride in Saturday's $500,000 sprint.

"He was caught five and six deep from the barrier and he had to go back to last before he started to circle the field again," Karakatsanis said.

"His run was outstanding but we didn't get the result."

Regular jockey Tye Angland returns from suspension to ride Black Piranha on Sunday after missing the Magic Millions mount.

"After the Sunshine Coast race we'll head back to Sydney and the horse can have a little break," Karakatsanis said.

Karakatsanis is hoping Black Piranha can extend his winning record beyond 1500 metres in future preparations.

"In time I'm sure the best of him will be seen over 2000 metres and that opens up a lot more options," he said.

Other Sunshine Coast Cup nominations include Mitanni, Fulmonti, Sequestrate and Mr Slick.
