Jockey Danny Brereton was taken to hospital by ambulance after being knocked unconscious for more than five minutes in a heavy fall during the running of the McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Brereton's mount Marquee Player was weakening out of Saturday's 1200m Listed race at the 400m mark after being trapped wide and was caught up in a scrimmage and fell.

Nick Hall, who was back at the rear on Hollowlea, was dislodged in the backwash of the incident but escaped injury.

The race was won by the Peter Moody-trained Anacheeva ($8) who settled 10th of the 12 runners on the fence after jumping from barrier one and enjoying a fast pace with several horses being pushed forward early.

The brother to 2006 AJC Australian Derby winner Headturner, ridden by Luke Nolen, scored by a head from The Ruffian ($19), who flew home from last on settling, with Bullbars ($9) a nose away third.

Anacheeva was having his first start since finishing a close-up fourth to Skilled in the Group One Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 24.

"He's a full-brother to a Derby winner in Headturner so we'll head towards the Caulfield Guineas with him and take it from there," Moody said.

The Anabaa colt, out of the Zabeel mare Monroe Magic, was bred by Tim Bodle, part-owner of 1988 Melbourne Cup winner Empire Rose.

Nolen said drawing barrier one played into his hands the way the track was racing on Saturday.

Anacheeva, who won a Sale 1200m two-year-old maiden on debut, has now won two of his four starts.

Stablemate Achievements ($3.70 fav) was caught outside the leader Seventh Bullet and weakened to finish fifth.
