Fiorente's grip on Melbourne Cup betting is slipping with strong momentum building for Luca Cumani's Mount Athos, reports Racing Network. The TAB have tightened Mount Athos in to $7.50 after as much as $21 was bet, clearly making him their worst result. Fiorente is out to $6 and has been friendless since his fighting third in the Cox Plate.

"Mount Athos has clearly been the best backed and I wouldn't be surprised if he is the favourite come Tuesday," said the TAB's Adam Hamilton.

"He is our worst way by almost double to the next horse and it is easy to see why punters are warming to him.

"He ran well when fifth last year and things didn't really pan out for him.

"This year he gets Craig Williams on by all reports he is doing very well at Werribee.

"The money came for Fiorente immediately after his run in the Cox Plate but has since dried up."

Hamilton indicated there has also been very little support for Dandino while punters are beginning to back Voleuse De Coeurs.

"The big money has started to come for Voleuse De Coeurs, we have been $15 to $12 this week after $41 was originally bet," he said.

"We had a bet of $5,000 at $15 and then another $3,000 at $13."
