March 18, 2009: Newcastle 1400m Newmarket$4.50 Solo Flyer: Group placegetter: best was 2nd in AJC Sires: solid chance here$4.75 Chasm: in trouble both runs this time in: also Group performed$5.00 Ashikaga: most promising but not Group level yet: today will tell heaps$8.00 Musket: 1st up winner last 2 campaigns: against quite fit runners might test This is a race well worth betting in as Ashikaga will be short and worth taking on at the price. This doesn't mean he cannot win because his potential is obvious but form is form and potential does not always equate to winning. Both Solo Flyer and Chasm have form around quite good horses and if they can recapture their runs in Group races they will be very solid at the finish of the race. On pre post prices in The Sportsman I will be backing my A and B selections and laying Ashikaga and McClintock (cannot believe he is 3/1 pre post).
