This sprinter/miler is in fine form currently and looks top notch material; at least while the tracks are wet as he's yet to be tested on improved going. The son of St. Petersburg kicked off his career with an eye-catching 5.75-length winning performance at Matamata on June 6. He looked ordinary during his next two runs, but gained plenty from the raceday experience and I knew there were improved efforts to come. Top rider James McDonald hopped aboard for his fourth start and the combo settled well back and wide in transit prior to unleashing a final burst in the run home to snatch a half-length victory.

3 starts : 1 win

Win distance range : 1600m

Track conditions won on : Slow

It may have been just a lowly maiden affair at the northern beach resort of Ruakaka, but the way this chestnut dealt to his rivals indicates a bright future for this Bachelor Duke 4-year-old. Ridden by experienced hoop Mark Sweeney, he trekked wide midfield without cover in the 1600m event and looked beaten at the 600m when under a hard ride. However, he responded gamely to his jockey's urgings and eventually hit the lead which he clung to with ease and had just under one length to spare at the post. His prior two starts were encouraging and it's unlikely he'll dwell in the lower grades for too long.
