Veteran trainer Clarry Conners produced a potential spring stakes-winner in This Is Australia on debut at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Owned by John Singleton and ridden by old master Jim Cassidy, This Is Australia led throughout in the Mossman @ Vinery Handicap (1100m).

Conners said the More Than Ready three-year-old colt had always been an impressive horse.

"He's a good horse, always has been," Conners said.

"I think he's got a big future. The first start is always the hardest," he added.

Conners said the horse would now go straight to the Listed $100,000 Heritage Stakes (1100m) at Royal Rndwick on September 20.

"That has always been the plan.

"I'm really pleased he won today, the owners have been very patient and it's been a long haul to get here," he said.

"He's all quality - he's a big boy in a man's body and once he works out his strength and learns to relax he's going to be a top horse," Jim Cassidy said after the win.
