The future of Victoria Derby winner Polanski hangs in the balance after the three-year-old copped a serious leg injury in the Group I Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday. Polanski suddenly came under pressure nearing the home turn and finished tailed off. Jockey Dean Yendall dismounted 400 metres after the finish line and returned to scale on foot while vets attended to Polanski. The initial prognosis indicated Polanski had badly injured his near fore pastern but a later examination at the Caulfield Equine Centre suggested that the injury appeared to be confined to a tendon. Even on the best assumptions, Polanski is unlilely to race again this season.
