THE going at Ascot was changed to good to soft on Monday morning but a breezy and dry day left clerk of the course Chris Stickels predicting that the straight course would revert to good going for the start of racing on Tuesday although the round would continue to have "some soft". The UK Racing Post's Diomed sums up the King's Stand: 'This has gone overseas seven times in the last 11 years. The American Bridgetown is interesting but Australian sprinters have won this four times in the last eight years and STAR WITNESS can enhance that fine record. Sole Power has the best form of the Europeans and Prohibit can outrun his odds.'

Trainer Graeme Rogerson is heading for a BIG spring in Sydney & Melbourne. The veteran NZer says he was very impressed with Shootoff's victory in the Qld Derby and is keen on his prospects for the Cups racing in Melbourne later in the year. GR says: 'It was a great performance, he's a tough horse. We are going to keep him in Sydney for the weight-for-age races here in the spring, and aim him at the Metropolitan Handicap before sending him to Melbourne."
