Slade Power, the best sprinter in the UK is a confirmed nomination to tackle Lankan Rupee in the $1 million Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington.
Nominations for the feature sprint race, run during Melbourne Cup week, closed today with 60 horses entered.
Slade Power has risen to the top of the UK sprinting chain with stunning wins in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot, before completing the rare double of winning the July Cup (1200m) three weeks later.
He is in line for a $600,000 bonus from the VRC should he add the VRC Sprint Classic to his other two Global Sprint Challenge ‘leg’ wins.
Today’s nominations included 10 three-year-olds, a few being Golden Rose winner Hallowed Crown, last season’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake and Gerald Ryan’s boom colt Rubick.
First acceptors for the Darley Classic will close on Tuesday, October 21. (Racing Network)
