Lots of 'issues' were settled with Sepoy's great win in the Golden Slipper. Firstly, all the critics who said Sepoy was 'over the top' after his Todman Slipper 2nd were proven totally wrong. Lots of 'issues' were settled with Sepoy's great win in the Golden Slipper. Firstly, all the critics who said Sepoy was 'over the top' after his Todman Slipper 2nd were proven totally wrong. Even after the race, Foxsports was calling the Todman run 'disastrous' - which is absolute twaddle. Secondly, Peter Snowden confirmed himself as one of the great trainers of the modern era. Thirdly, the often maligned Kerrin McEvoy proved that he is one of the great jockeys of the modern era with a cool, calculating big-race ride. Finally, Sepoy showed that he really is a champion 2YO and that, in fact, his 2nd in the Todman was a herculean effort in muddy conditions that he hated. Far from being the run that cut him down to size, it was the run that underlined his greatness.

It's very doubtful that we will see much more of Sepoy. His owner Sheik Mohammad will want to parade him in Europe as a 3YO. That means the spring may well be the final look we get of him in Australia.

Peter Snowden was as emotional and humble in victory as he always is. The victory meant everything to him. He says: 'I can't believe it. You know it can happen but until it does you just don't know. We had two Slipper winners (Guineas and Forensics) when I was at Woodlands ... but this is just unbelievable.'
