Racing Victoria Chairman Of Stewards Terry Bailey will today address the issue of people waving flags and other objects near horses at Flemington.

“I will give Mick Goodie (Flemington Track Manager) a call today and see what we can do about that not happening again,” Bailey told Racing Network on Wednesday.

Yesterday at Flemington, when the Melbourne Cup horses were returning to scale down the famous lane from the racetrack to the mounting yard, a flag-waver caused Araldo to shy, kick-out, breaking his leg on a rail.

The horse was later put down after X-rays and scans revealed he could not be saved.

“I know it’s a freak accident but it is a tragic one and we do not want to see it happen again,” Bailey said.

“I’ll talk to Mick and see what we can do about it,” he added.
