He'll be on Cannonball for the first time. Valenzuela, whose wins include the 1989 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes on Sunday Silence, has for some years ridden under an agreement with the Californian Horse Racing Board that he submit to regular drug testing. He was suspended on drug offences eight times in the 1990s and in 2000 spent 22 months on the sidelines for a positive drug test. He has since been suspended on drug charges in 2004, 2006 and 2007. In 2008, he rode his 4000th career winner.
