We liked the run of SAVANNAH DANCER for 3rd in a BM70 1400m for 3YO Fillies at Randwick on Sunday (May 20); came through the centre late with a sound finale. In the same race, CHENECLAIR caught the eye; she closed well in the final 100m.

At Flemington on Saturday (May 19), MENADOS did very well for 4th over 1400m at his first run since last Oct 9; in good hands and can improve sharply. From the Scone meeting, MACARTHUR BULL closed strongly just behind the placegetters over 1100m; deserves a breakthrough. There was much merit in the fast-finishing 2nd of VILLA SPLENDIDO over 1100m; that was only her second raceday outing; she has potential. Mark down POTIONS to follow; caught the eye late in the Dark Jewel Classic 1400m. At Doomben, the NZer QUINTESSENTIAL closed well in the Roses 2000m and will be suited over more ground (Oaks?).

On Friday (May 18), we marked off VEETEEN (3rd) and RORSCHACH (8th) from a Mdn Plate 1600m at Scone. BLATHER looked unlucky when 3rd in a Cl 2 1300m; would have won with a better draw. CENTREPET will improve on her 2nd in the 2YO Challenge. At Wagga, AL'S CHOICE shaped OK for 5th in a Mdn 1400m.

At Sandown Lakeside on Wednesday (May 16), BALMORAL ran on well for 3rd over 2100m in RB78; looks ready to deliver for the Mike Moroney stable. From the Canterbury card we noted CALIFORNIA POPPY running home nicely wide out over 1200m at her first start for almost 2 months. Keep an eye on A LITTLE PRAYER after her good 4th in a Mdn 1250m for 3YOs.
