Final approval next week...That's the prediction about the shambles of a row between Racing Victoria and the Aussie Quarantine Service. The Age reports: Fierce obbying appears to have drawn all parties closer to a resolution for the new quarantine centre at Werribee, after it was feared a further delay could seriously affect this year's 150th Melbourne Cup. The Quarantine and Inspection Service and Racing Victoria are significantly closer to approval of the operating manuals for the Werribee International Horse Centre. Racing officials had feared on Wednesday that had the approval been delayed indefinitely it could have caused havoc with international racehorses travelling to Australia for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. The operating manuals for the new quarantine centre must be completed before it is allowed to open.

''There has been a lot of progress in the last 24 hours with AQIS. ''We are disappointed that final approval has been delayed, however we are working closely with AQIS to resolve the issue with an obvious degree of urgency.'' Racing Victoria is hopeful that final approval will be given next week.
