Others to attract interest in the last 24 hours includ Herculian Prince ($6,000 @ $7) and Manighar ($6,800 @ $13) while smaller bets have been placed on Alcopop, Harris Tweed and Mr Medici.

The surprise is that there hasn't been much backing for Shocking. But Alan Eskander is expecting the stayer's backers to emerge as the race draws nearer. He says: 'He ticks a lot of boxes - good trainer, good jockey, good draw and great record at the track. It also won't worry him if the forecast wet weather comes and the track is affected...It might make it more of a staying test and that's where Metal Bender might be vulnerable. He's only raced once over 2400 metres and finished 8th in the AJC Derby so the jury must still be out on his ability to run the trip...We're expecting plenty of action in the next day or so leading up to the race and it wouldn't surprise if Shocking ended up favourite come race time.'
