Manighar was the big mover in feature race markets after a sensational day's racing at Flemington and Warwick Farm, says Alan Eskander of Betstar. He told PPD: 'Although reigning Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed won the Makybe Diva Stakes, it was the placegetters in the race, Manighar (2nd) and Moudre (3rd) who had punters talking after the race...Manighar tightened sharply, and is now second favourite for the Caulfield Cup behind Green Moon $13 after firming from $26 to $15. He is now also on the third line of betting for the Cox Plate ($15 to $13) behind Gai Waterhouse's pair of Pierro ($5) and More Joyous ($6).'

Like most other race fans, Alan Eskander reckons Manighar was a certainty beaten. He says: 'Swap the runs and you swap the result...Craig Williams rode a brilliant race on Southern Speed and that was the difference. It was also her third run this time in while Manighar was first-up from a 16-week break. He'll take great benefit from that run and he's clearly come back better than ever.' Eskander says trainer Peter Moody has plenty of options to consider. He adds: 'This horse finished 4th in last year's Caulfield Cup and 5th in the Melbourne Cup so those two races are obvious targets again but you'd imagine that Peter Moody might head to Moonee Valley (for the Cox Plate) after that run today. It was as good a Cox Plate trial as you would see.'
