Lloyd Williams has made the shock decision to withdraw Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon and highly rated import Sea Moon from Saturday's Turnbull Stakes in favour of elevating Fawkner into the field in preparation for a Caulfield Cup start, reports The Age.

Fawkner would have missed a run in the Turnbull had Williams not made the call to sacrifice Green Moon and Sea Moon from the crucial Group 1 event, confirming rumours that the classy miler was indeed viewed as a leading Cups contender by his stable this spring.

Green Moon will now run next Saturday in the Caulfield Stakes over 2000m while Sea Moon will tackle the 2500m Bart Cummings Stakes at Listed level on Saturday. Opinion remains divided on just how well the spring carnival headline import is going ahead of the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.
