Looks like an international campaign is off for mighty sprinter Black Caviar...Latest reports say Peter Moody has virtually ruled out taking champion mare overseas to race this season. Instead, BC is likely to tackle six Grp 1 races in three states during late summer and autumn. Moody is preparing her for a return to racing in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Feb 19. She is then expected to run in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on Mar 12 and then the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley two weeks later. BC heads out of Victoria for the first time to take on the T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Apr 10 before two more races in Brisbane, the BTC Cup (1200m) and Doomben 10,000 (1350m).

Well-fancied Ranger is maintaining favoritism for Saturday's $400,000 Perth Cup despite drawing awkwardly. Ranger drew gate #12 in the 16 runner field and TAB Sportsbet eased his price only from $3.80 to $4.00. On the second line of betting at $6.50 are Colour Correct and Ranger's stablemate, Western Jewel, who both drew well in barriers #3 and #6.

Monton, Australia's sole runner in the Grp 1 Railway Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie in New Zealand on New Year's Day, has drawn well in barrier #4 of 14 runners.
Monton, from the Tim Martin stable, won the Hobartville Stakes last March and returned to racing with a win at Rosehill early this month.
