Dermot Weld’s Pale Mimosa overnight went into quarantine in England for a possible trip to Australia for the Melbourne Cup. A final decision on whether the six-year-old mare makes the trip will be made by Weld in consultation with her owners in the next week.

Weld confirmed the mare had gone into quarantine and that no decision had been taken on her making the trip, racing.com has reported this afternoon.

He said if Pale Mimosa came to Australia her regular rider, Pat Smullen, would ride her in the Melbourne Cup.

Weld has twice won the Melbourne Cuip, firstly with Vintage Crop in 1994 and again with Media Puzzle in 2002.
