Betfair is biting back strongly against Racing NSW. Latest news says Betfair has decided to boycott promoting turnover on NSW racing following its appeal defeat last Friday regarding NSW race fields legislation in the High Court of Australia. Over the last six weeks Betfair has have had a two page formguide in the Daily Telegraph on Saturdays promoting Australia's biggest races of the autumn carnival. This week, though, Betfair's two-page promo will cover the Easter Cup meeting at Caulfield. Betfair's media man Matt Thompson says: 'Our customers still have the choice if they wish to bet in NSW but from our business point of view it's not really viable for us to be going out of our way to promote NSW racing...If we're in a position to promote one or a number of jurisdictions over NSW then that's what we'll do...It's a business decision." Further bad news for Racing NSW is that Betfair is strongly considering cutting off NSW racing to its overseas customers - a potential 4 million strong crowd of dedicated punters. So - it looks like Racing nSW's expected revenue gains from Betfair will be severely slashed. The golden goose is snapping back.
