The shadowy dictators at the Singapore Turf Club have yet to reveal why Stephen Baster got the instant boot despite riding like a superstar. Baster is back in Melbourne still trying to find a reason for his shock sacking. He's heard many rumors but remains 'in the dark'. Baster told TVN: 'I have not broken any rules or been asked to attend any inquiries...I spoke to the Chief Steward Peter Chadwick and Neville Lasky and they had no idea why my licence was withdrawn, but said that the stewards panel had no problem with my riding...It came from above the stewards.' Baster's disgraceful treatment should be a warning to any Aussie jockey tempted to ride in Singapore.

Popular Chris Symons resumes riding on Saturday. Symons, who broke his foot in a bizarre accident when apprentice Tom Sadler backed into him in the car park of Sale racecourse in late September, returns at Morphettville. He rode work for Tony McEvoy last week and has 3 rides for him on Sat.

Looks like we won't be seeing Ethiopia until the spring. TVN reports that trainer Pat Carey says Ethiopia is having an easy time. "Look, he's in light work right now and we have no plans for him at the moment," Carey says. "We'll just monitor him and see how he handles it."
