Bart Cummings, who isn't getting any younger, is certainly super-serious about another Melbourne Cup win. He has last year's Cup winner Viewed heading his 11-horse team for the big race. Bart's trying to notch win #13. His entries include AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor, AJC Oaks runner-up Think Money, VRC St Leger runner-up Precedence and 2007 Queensland Derby winner Empires Choice.

A total of 230 horses were entered for the Melbourne Cup and 227 for the Caulfield Cup, down significantly on last year's entries of 297 and 282 respectively. In what's seen as the backlash from the global economic doom-and-gloom,there's a drop from 66 to 43 international nominations for the spring racing carnival's three major races -- 39 overseas entries for the Melbourne Cup, 18 for the Caulfield Cup and 11 for the Cox Plate.

Buoyed by its breakthrough Australian Grp 1 success in last year?s Caulfield Cup with All The Good, the world's biggest racing operation, Godolphin, has nominated seven top stayers for the spring feature races. Nominations for the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup are topped by Godolphin's Grp 1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m) winner Eastern Anthem. Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor's entries also feature last-start Grp 2 Goodwood Cup (3200m) winner Schiaparelli, Grp 2 York Stakes (2088m) winner Kirklees and emerging star Age Of Reason. 'There's no doubt All The Good's win in last year's Caulfield Cup has made Godolphin even more determined to come back and, in particular, win that elusive Melbourne Cup...this determination is indicated in the quality of their entries," says Racing Victoria's General Manager of Racing Operations Leigh Jordon.
