Taking a risk and double banking the two least experienced horses in the field will pay off in the middle leg of tomorrow's Triple Trio at Sha Tin, with sprinters Blue Caviar and Genki Moochi ready to fire. While the opening leg looks tough, the two aforementioned youngsters stand out in a Class Three sprint up the 1,000m straight course and can help punters narrow things down as they chase a HK$3.75 million jackpot on National Day.
The Danny Shum Chap-shing-trained Blue Caviar was electric on debut over this track and distance, showing real dash and eye-catching acceleration to score by 1-1/2 lengths in Class Four.
The most impressive part of the win was the raw nature. The four-year-old still has plenty to learn and much improvement to come. If he can re-produce anything like that sizzling performance on September 18, he'll be very hard to beat in this grade. Matthew Chadwick replaces Douglas Whyte in the saddle.
Genki Moochi was a Private Purchase for the Tony Millard camp and showed he could be right up to his 70 rating when with a slick, all-the-way trial win over this course 10 days ago.
The three-year-old scorched the Sha Tin turf without too much urging from Derek Leung Ka-chun, stopping the clock at 1.00.1 while carving out impressive splits. The gelding arrived from Australia, where he was a A$280,000 (HK$2.15 million) yearling purchase, after a professional 2-1/2-length win on the New South Wales provincial circuit, and before that was placed second at two starts among some decent opposition.
Leung keeps the ride and expect him to be right in the firing line.
Others to include are Pocket Rockets, who Whyte will ride for main ally John Size, Xi Ying Men - who will relish the cut out of the ground - and Share Of Gold. (wsww.racing.scmp.com)
