THINGS GET HOTTER

The next few weekends are Sydney's flagship performances: it's make or break time.

You know the line-up: BMW, Golden Slipper, Sydney Cup, Doncaster, Oaks, Derby... etc etc...

If they can't make these the biggest thing of the local year, with what they've got entered, even allowing for the recent spate of withdrawals, they ought to throw in the towel.

And of course they will make a success of it, but to what magnitude?

The Slipper might be a great Slipper.

Something needs to happen, as in Luskin Star's year. Sepoy needs to blitz the field, or Karuta Queen, short of a run and clearly out of sorts at Canberra, could street them as she did up north.

That would do it for starters.

And a great Derby or Oaks win would help. Both would be better still. There are the kids to do it. Think Flemington last November.

And, to cap it all, a huge win by something like Ilovethiscity, Aloha or favourite More Joyous, in Australia's Number One classic mile, the Doncaster would be the icing on the cake.

It's all in the pipeline... bring it on!
