IMPRESSIVE Rosehill Gardens winner Monton looks set to be Australia's lone representative in the Group One Railway Stakes (1200m) in New Zealand on New Year's Day with Whitefriars battling a throat injury, reports the Daily Telegraph.
It says: Warwick Farm trainer Rick Worthington yesterday confirmed that Whitefriars, who finished third in the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth last start, would not be making the trip across the Tasman.
"There were a few things that went against us when we were over in Perth which has led to Whitefriars developing some problems with his throat," Worthington said. "It is pretty disappointing because New Zealand was an option that we were keen to explore but it appears that is out of the question now. First and foremost I want to treat the horse and make sure he is right before we head back to the races."
Worthington said Whitefriars' problems arose from being stabled next to a construction zone, which forced him to breathe in an unusual amount of dust.
