Deer Valley will continue on to the feature group events for three-year-old fillies after she finished strongly to capture the Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. A $100,000 purchase by the team from BC3 Thoroughbreds at last year's Magic Millions Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast, Deer Valley ground down Melito in an all Magic Millions finish to the fillies feature.

Trainer Chris Waller was impressed with the filly who over recent months has developed from a handy wet tracker to a stakes winning star. "She's gone to a whole new level this filly," Waller said. "It's great for her new owners. She's got a good future ahead of her...She hits the line hard."

The win was welcomed by winning rider Daniel Ganderton. A former Tassie based hoop, Ganderton was last season's leading apprentice in Sydney and continues to make great strides through the riding ranks under the care of "boss" Gai Waterhouse.

"I'm certainly grateful to Chris for giving me the opportunity to ride this horse," Ganderton said. "She's one of those horses with a terrific nature," he added. "She's very kind - a pleasure to do anything with...I think that was half the reason she was able to win today...She's just so professional."

At the line Deer Valley ($8) held a half head margin over Melito ($4.60 fav), while Hurtle Myrtle ($16) edged out Kiss Me Katy ($6.50) to run third.
