Trainer Tony McEvoy makes no secret he is aiming high with Mouro and he's listing the $3 million Doncaster Mile on the first day of The Championships (April 12) as the #1 target, reports Racing Network.

On Saturday, Mouro will tackle the Group 2 $175,000 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and McEvoy says he needs to run well for him to progress with his campaign.

“Saturday’s race will be very strong.' he said. "I know he’s going well but he’s going to need to be as this will be a real test.

Mouro resumed in the Group 3 $120,000 TAB Rewards (1400m) at Flemington on March 1, after completing his Spring campaign in stunning fashion.

He went to the paddock on the back of tough wins in the 1600-metre Sale Cup and the 1800-metre Eclipse Stakes at Caulfield, when nothing went right and he still won comfortably.

McEvoy realised he had a good horse on his hands after the Eclipse Stakes win and spelled him immediately.

“I think he can be very competitive in the Doncaster so he’ll need to step-up on Saturday if that’s going to be the case,” McEvoy said.

Craig Williams has been booked to ride Mouro in the Ajax as he did when he won first-up at Caulfield.
