Top trainer Nick Olive is celebrating his first win at racing's elite level after gallant filly Single Gaze won Saturday's Group One Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.
The win by the $70,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase was a dream come true for Olive and it was a great result for regular rider Kathy O'Hara who notched her second Group One win.

"I'm numb, I'm absolutely numb. It's every trainer's dream to win a Group 1 and it's funny, I've just been so relaxed all week and came here today so confident, I just didn't realise why no-one wanted a bar of her," Olive told media.

"Just to share it with these people (owners) too it's just unbelievable, I don't know what to say."

"I've won the premiership in Canberra six times, we've had a lot of success and we've won stakes races."

"I honestly said to the group of owners I think she'll be better over 2000m than she was over the mile. And Kathy, unbelievable. It was a long run home."

"She's just a top filly, she keeps stepping up to the mark and just such a gutsy little filly. She's such a tough filly and everything she does she just improves."

O'Hara was not surprisingly all smiles after the race. She was able to give a mighty salute high in the irons as her and Single Gaze raced past the winning post.

"She is such a trier this horse," O'Hara noted. "She did it tough and got a bit of cover mid race but she is so strong, she is so small."
"I am so pleased for Nick, it's his first Group 1 and it's just unbelievable to win it for him I am so excited, I have had a bit to do with this filly, I won her first start, have ridden the mother and it just means so much."

Single Gaze has been a model of consistency since her gallant second placing to subsequent Melbourne group two winner in the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) in January.

After the Gold Coast she ran second in the Group Two Surround Stakes before an impressive win in the Group Three Keith Nolan Classic at Kembla Grange.

In the Vinery Stud Stakes she was able to sit behind the leaders before pouncing on the lead in the straight and despite it being a long way from home, the filly proved too strong and went home to win by three parts of a length.

A daughter of fellow Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate Not a Single Doubt, Single Gaze was purchased by Olive for $70,000 from the Redbank North draft at the 2014 edition of the sale. As it stands the filly has already won over $1 million from just 13 starts!

Single Gaze is one of two stakes winners produced by the Sydney winning Intergaze mare and 100 per cent winner producer Redaluca's Gaze.

As well as Single Gaze, Redaluca's Gaze is the dam of the Queensland stakes winner Le Val. Her other runner is also a winner.
