Tony McEvoy is gang-tackling Saturday’s Group 3 $115,000 National Stakes for two-year-olds at Morphettville. He has three well-performed youngsters making up 33 percent of the nine-horse field. 

“Our two-year-olds have done a good job this season and the National Stakes is a good race on our home turf, so it’s important to have our horses run well in it,” McEvoy told Racing Network.

McEvoy’s trio is headed by the multiple-winner Iconic, who has competed at the highest level throughout his four start career.

He won the $250,700 Bendigo Gold Rush two runs back, before contesting the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes in Sydney when a 5.7 length fifth to Safeguard, who went on to run second in the Golden Slipper Stakes.

McEvoy also has Bring A Ring engaged, a Sebring filly who has won twice at Morphettville, as well as being placed at Stakes level at her past two starts there.

His trio is completed with My Little Friend, an Exceed And Excel filly who has raced twice for a 4.8 length sixth to Kuroshio at Flemington in the Listed $121,000 Superracing Stakes on October 6, before her first-up eye-catching fourth to Calcatta in the Listed Dequettville Stakes at Morphettville on April 27.

“It’s a nice position to be in with three genuine winning chances in the race," McEvoy commented.
