Internationals dominate latest Melbourne Cup betting

There are now 40 chances after third acceptances for the Melbourne Cup and Japanese star Admire Ratki ($4) remains the unchanged favourite.

“The overseas raiders appear destined to complete a clean sweep of our Spring majors”, TAB’s Gerard Middleton said.

“First Admire Rakti in the Caulfield Cup, then Adelaide in the Cox Plate, and with as much as half the field set to be international horses, the Melbourne Cup looks a tall order for our local stayers, and the market is reflecting that.”

Of the internationals, Ebor Handicap winner, Mutual Regard, has started to attract attention and is into $13. The Godolphin stable is back to try and break its Melbourne Cup duck and Willing Foe has moved to $19 from $41 a fortnight ago.

However a couple of local horses are still attracting plenty of interest. Caulfield Cup placegetter Lucia Valentina is into $6.50 after a customer had $7,500 on the Kris Lees-trained mare at $7 on the weekend. Also, Fawkner remains solid at $12 after finishing runner-up in the Cox Plate.

Moonee Valley Gold Cup winner, Prince Of Penzance, has gone from $201 to $51 after its win on the weekend and sits 24^th on the order of entry at this stage, meaning the five-year old gelding would sneak into the field.
