MOST Saturdays, Linda Meech plies her trade at the provincials, but yesterday, with most of the state's leading riders interstate, the well-travelled jockey notched a winning double for top trainer Peter Moody, reports the Sunday Age.

Its report adds: After starting her apprenticeship in New Zealand, Meech, 29, has had stints in South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales, and has been based in Melbourne for the past two years enjoying plenty of success on Moody's lesser lights and says she's quite happy with her lot.

''I don't get many opportunities to ride nice horses like these in town but, in saying that, I'm very happy playing second fiddle to Luke [Nolen],'' Meech said. ''I get the majority of Peter's nice provincial rides on a Saturday and I'm happy with that.''

Moody was well represented at Caulfield and extended his lead on the premiership with a winning treble. He now has 51 winners and is well clear of Danny O'Brien on 31.

Meech's first winner came on the promising filly Ocean Dream in the Sunday Age Footy Magazine Cup (1600 metres), with the half-sister to Toorak Handicap winner Marble Halls coming off an Echuca maiden win last start.

Ocean Dream ($6) settled back in the field but was able to follow Second King ($3.30 favourite) into the race on the turn and proved a shade too good, winning by a half-head, with the pacemaker Sky Pharaoh ($31) 2¢ lengths away third.

The second of Meech's winners came in the Manhattan Rain Handicap (1100 metres) aboard Elumino, who was resuming from a spell, and the jockey gave her the run of the race in behind the leaders.
