THE CHAMPIONSHIPS, DAY 1 – KEY MOVES
Race 4 – Country Championship Final
The two runners coming out of the Tamworth qualifier – Tarangower ($4.60-$4.20) and Voodoo Lad ($6-$5) – are easily the most popular runners.
Tarangower, who ran second to Voodoo Lad, is set to start favourite and trialled well last Friday at Warwick Farm.
Race 6 – Inglis Sires Produce
Punters have jumped on Golden Slipper runner-up, English ($4.60-$3.80), in the past 24 hours. The Gai Waterhouse-trained two-year-old now is equal favourite after bets last night of $3,180 and $3,000 @ $4.60.
Pride of Dubai ($3.50-$3.80) is a slight drifter.
Race 7 – Australian Derby
Hauraki ($3.50-$3.20) has firmed into favourite from Preferment ($3.50) who remains solid at his quote.
Interest is well spread across the top four in betting with the Kiwi pair – Volkstok’n’barrell ($4.60-$5) and Mongolian Khan ($8-$7) – attracting smaller support today.
The NZ Derby winner, who ran 5th in the Rosehill Guineas to Volstok’n’barrell, attracted one bet of $1200 @ $8 today.
Race 8 – T J Smith
Chautauqua ($2.80-$3.20) has drifted today (was as short as $2.60 on Tuesday) and now shares favouritism with Terravista ($3.20).
The Darley Classic winner in the spring had big bets placed on him earlier in the week, including: $7,000 & $4,000 @ $3.20.
Lankan Rupee ($5.50-$5) has firmed today as the smaller punters continue to back the Mick Price-trained five-year-old.
Race 9 – Doncaster Mile
Hallowed Crown ($4.60-$5) has drifted today as punters rally for runners wider in the market.
Last Saturday’s winner over 2000m, Pornichet ($8-$7), firmed today and sits on the second line of betting.
Arabian Gold ($17-$13) has been the most popular runner today and attracted one bet of $1500 @ $17.
The four-year-old mare will tackle the mile third-up after finishing 6th in the Coolmore Classic on March 14.
Suavito has been $17 into $13 since Tuesday’s barrier draw with the biggest bet $1000 @ $17.
