Saturday's Top Cut Stocks Stakes did not tell racing fans anything they did not already know, but it didn’t detract from the enjoyment they got out of the Group 2 race. Champion mare Atlantic Jewel extended her unbeaten run to nine starts with an effortless win in the $220,000 16000-metre event, reports Racing Victoria.

The Spring Racing Carnival headline act exerted a significant class edge on her five rivals to coast home in a performance Mark Kavanagh described as trackwork.

“That was just a little course proper gallop, wasn’t it?” he said. “(Over) a mile, home three (furlongs). She’s certainly a special horse.”

Atlantic Jewel scored the softest of her nine wins in what was one of three Group 2 races on the Moonee Valley program. She jumped as well as anything and was sharing the lead for around 300m before Michael Rodd assumed the spot behind the leading pair on the outside and took over at the 400m.

After putting a space on her rivals early in the straight, Rodd eased off on the $1.06 favourite over the final 100m and finished with a 2-1/2-length advantage over Oasis Bloom ($21) with Oriental Ruby ($41) 1-3/4 lengths back third.

Winning jockey Michael Rodd said it was great to see today’s race go to script, but is conscious of the fact things will get tougher from here.
“I think most people knew that was going to be the case today and she was going to win like that,” the recently-crowned Scobie Breasley medallist said. “Today was obviously an easier way to come, to look after her, but it’s not going to get any easier from now on in.”

The result made it two wins from two starts this campaign for the daughter of Fastnet Rock, who resumed with a brilliant victory in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on 31 August.

The five-year-old retains a stranglehold on Cox Plate markets, tightening into $2.70 with TAB, and while Kavanagh refused to confirm where her next start would be, he did confirm she is a chance to back up in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield next Saturday.
