Punters are expecting a big run from Godolphin two-year-old Astern when the colt makes its debut in the first race at Randwick tomorrow.
Astern has been backed from $101 into $26 since betting on the Golden Slipper opened on Thursday morning.
“Astern has been by far and away the best supported runner in the first 24 hours of Slipper betting, but surprisingly it’s not the best backed for its debut run tomorrow,” said TAB’s Glenn Munsie.
“The $101 in the Slipper didn’t last long and it has already been backed to win over $165,000.
“With no video of its trial win on November 24, it was hard to get a real gauge on how it went considering Regimental Force ran 1.4 seconds faster than it in winning a trial on the same day.”
Astern is on the equal second line of betting at $4.60 to win Race 1 (Surf Meets Turf Plate) at Randwick tomorrow over 1000m. Regimental Force is the $1.60 favourite and best backed runner to win the race.
