Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist and UK galloper Snow Sky head the weights for this year’s $3 million BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) with 58kg.

The weights for the world’s richest 2400m handicap were officially released by Racing Victoria General Manger - Racing Greg Carpenter on Tuesday.

As expected the Japanese pair of Fame Game and Hokko Brave, were also prominent towards the top of weights, receiving 57kg and 55.5kg respectively.

The Team Freedman-trained import Our Ivanhowe was given 56kg by Carpenter, with other horses allocated more than 55.5kg including Criterion (57.5kg) and Contributer (57kg).

Last year’s Caulfield Cup placegetters Rising Romance and Lucia Valentina were both allocated 53kg.

Others prominent in the early Caulfield Cup betting include Australian and NZ Derby winnerMongolian Khan and The BMW victor Hartnell, who were both given 55kg, Victorian and ATC Oaks winners Set Square and Gust Of Wind, who both received 51kg, Queensland Oaks winner Winxwho was allocated 50.5kg and Australian Derby runner-up Hauraki, who received 53kg.

Three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux was allocated 55kg, as was his stablemateTrip To Paris and Irish entrant Max Dynamite, who recently won the Lonsdale Cup in the UK.
