SOUTH Australia's premier trainer Tony McEvoy has endorsed the State Government's proposal that will allow the Adelaide Cup to return to its traditional place in May, reports Adelaide Now.

It says: Premier Jay Weatherill announced yesterday the public holidays review was complete and one of the recommendations was to move the Queen's Birthday public holiday from June to May. This would result in the Adelaide Cup being run in the second week of May starting in 2014.

"That's fantastic news," McEvoy said yesterday.

The Adelaide Cup shift from March to May would align with the South Australian Jockey Club's plans to again have the Group 2 feature as a showpiece of its May to Autumn Racing Carnival. The autumn carnival last year saw the appearance of Australia's Queen of the Turf - Black Caviar.

But one missing ingredient was the lack of its cup feature, run back in March and won by local Rialya.
