Lionel Cohen will run Aeronautical in Saturday's Gilgai Stakes at Flemington over the Premier Stakes at Royal Randwick with Craig Williams booked to ride. "He worked at Rosehill this morning and Jimmy (Cassidy) came out to ride him but we are going to Melbourne," Cohen said.

"The Premier Stakes is run under weight-for-age conditions where as the Gilgai is set weights and penalties, where he will carry only 55.5kg.

"It is a lot easier to stay at home and race at Randwick but I think the Gilgai is more suitable for the horse."

Aeronautical returned from a break with a narrow first-up second to Sessions in The Shorts at Randwick a fortnight ago.

The last time Aeronautical raced down the straight six at Flemington he finished a close third to Shamexpress in the Newmarket Handicap.

Cohen was delighted with the first-up run of Aeronautical and was most impressed by the horse's ability to settle closer to the speed.

"I think now as a five-year-old he is a lot more mature and Jimmy showed that he doesn't just have to go back to last and then storm home at the finish when it is too late," he said.

"We've taken our time with him, he has only had 22 starts and I think his best racing is still ahead of him." (www.racingnetwork.com.au)
