Last start Tattersalls Cup (LR) winner Moriarty made it two stakes wins in the first 10 days of the new year when he fought off the Gai Waterhouse-trained Reuben Percival in Thursday's Listed Gosford Cup (2100m), reports Breednet.

It says: In six starts in Australia, Moriarty has two wins, two seconds and a third. His only unplaced run came in the Listed Christmas Cup over 2400 metres convincing Waller that he may not stay the extended trip at this point of his career.

With Waller at the Magic Millions Yearling sale, stable foreman Peter Muscutt said Moriarty would likely have a spell.

"He's probably done enough now but we'll just see how he comes through," Muscutt told AAP. "He's come a long way this preparation and the drop back in distance in his past couple of starts has done the trick. He probably doesn't quite see out the mile and a half. It just blunts that turn of foot that he does have, but over this type
of distance he can show that turn of foot."

Waller purchased Moriarty out of the 2011 Tattersalls Horses In Training sale for 90,000 guineas.

He was a useful performer for trainer Richard Hannon, winning twice at two and placing in the Gallinule Stakes (G3) at the Curragh and the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket.

A son of Danehill's French 2000 Guineas (G1) winner Clodovil, Moriarty is out of the Criminal Type mare Justice System, a half-sister to Lear Spear, whose 6 wins include the Prince of Wales's Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot. Diomed Stakes (G3) at Epsom and the Select Stakes (G3) at Goodwood.
