AS CONFIRMATION was received yesterday that last year's Cox Plate winner So You Think and Caulfield Cup winner Descarado would not defend their crowns, the first international visitor flew into Melbourne for a tilt at the spring's riches, reports The Age.

It says: In what Racing Victoria Limited officials hope is the first of a number of international arrivals over the next month, the John Moore-trained Mighty High and his stablemate, middle-distance galloper Silver Grecian, took up residence at racing's quarantine station at Werribee racecourse just an hour after their arrival from Hong Kong. Mighty High, who will be ridden during the spring by Hong Kong-based Australian jockey Darren Beadman, is well named as he is aimed at the Caulfield and Melbourne cups.

RVL's international scout, Leigh Jordan, yesterday rated Mighty High as at least the equal of Mr Medici, who last year ran sixth in the Caulfield Cup and 12th in the Melbourne Cup.

''John Moore knows what it takes to win here and he wouldn't be here if he didn't think they would measure up,'' he said.
