Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) colt Golden Archer is regarded in the top echelon of juveniles in the powerful Peter Moody stable and he lived up to expectation with a dominant victory at Flemington on Saturday.

Golden Archer drew the outside barrier but jockey Luke Nolen allowed the strapping colt to stride on the outside of the early co-leader, Ardennais.

Nolen asked the youngster to extend at the 300 metres and Golden Archer quickly put paid to the opposition coasting away to a comprehensive two and a quarter length win in the 1100 metre dash.

Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Connor said Golden Archer was the best youngster of the large number to have passed through to stable to date.

"He's probably been the benchmark for ours (two-year-olds) at the moment, and he has brought that here today," he said.

"He seemed to be in a straight line all the way up the straight. His head was up a little bit at times but that was probably him trying to get down to the inside."

O'Connor said the Moody team would review Golden Archer's performance before deciding whether to tackle the rich two-year-old events in the autumn.
