Earthquake is set to start a hot favourite to take out the Golden Slipper in a fortnight. The daughter of Exceed And Excel is now $2.10 (TAB), in from $2.80 that was available earlier today, to take out the Slipper after an impressive win in the Reisling.
Mossfun, gallant in defeat to Earthquake, has firmed from $8.00 into $6.50 and is the clear second pick in the Slipper. Punters were relentless in today’s Reisling Stakes at Rosehill, taking any price on offer for Earthquake. Opening at $2.00 earlier in the week, that price was long gone this morning but the big move from $1.70 into $1.45 came off the back of a flood of money.
Some of the bigger bets taken today included $7,500 @ $1.70, $10,000 @ $1.65 and $5,000 @ $1.45. One customer had splashed out $30,000 @ $1.90 yesterday. In other Slipper news, Peter Snowden’s other runner, Ghibellines, caused a big upset in the Todman at the price of $31. It has firmed up dramatically in Slipper betting ($51 into $13) and is currently equal third in the market.
