Atlantic Jewel will have 10 Group 1 winners for competition when she strives to stretch her unbeaten record to double figures in Saturday's $400,000 Group 1 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield. Puissance de Lune, It's A Dundeel, Green Moon, Sea Moon and Foreteller will be among the champion mare's rivals in the feature event of a nine-race Carnival Preview Day program.

The Melbourne Racing Club has thrown open the gates for the day and with a beautiful 22-degree day predicted, plus no AFL football in the afternoon, it is hopeful of attracting upwards of 12,000 patrons.

Currently rated the clear $2.50 TAB fixed odds favourite for the Sportingbet Cox Plate, Atlantic Jewel has opened the $1.45 favourite for the Underwood after drawing favourably in barrier seven of the 14-horse field.

While he may be one of only three gallopers in the Underwood, alongside Sea Moon and My Quest For Peace, that is yet to secure Group 1 success, Puissance De Lune’s quality is underlined by his position at the top of the betting for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

Rated on the second line of the betting in the Underwood at $6.50, the Darren Weir-trained stallion’s task of achieving his first Group 1 victory on Saturday was potentially complicated after drawing the outside barrier (14).

Early Cox Plate favourite It’s A Dundeel will start from barrier 12, while 2012 Melbourne Cup champion Green Moon has drawn in gate 10 with his Macedon Lodge stable mate Sea Moon to begin from barrier five.

Other key draws in this mouth-watering early Spring Racing Carnival feature include Manighar (barrier two), Mr Moet (13), Foreteller (11), Ethiopia (one), Waldpark (nine) and Dear Demi (six).

A further highlight on the day, which will be almost as eagerly anticipated, is the Group 3 D’Urban Naturalism Stakes (2000m), which offers ballot exemption into the BMW Caulfield Cup for the winner.

Among the field of 20 engaged in the Naturalism are the Macedon Lodge stable mates  Seville (barrier two) and Tanby (one), the exciting pair of Mick Price-trained imports Pakal (11) and Bit Of Hell (13) and Ciaron’s Maher’s trio of Mr O’Ceirin (19), Moudre (10) and Sahara Sun (four).

The Thousand Guineas picture should become clearer after the running of the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), which features a classy field of 12 fillies including Politeness (barrier seven), Gregers (two), Kiss A Rose (one), Montsegur (11), and The Huntress (12).

In the final Stakes race on the card, the Group 3 Sportingbet Sprint Series Heat 2 Stakes (1200m), well-performed mares Hi Belle (barrier six), Catkins (12), Octavia (one), A Time For Julia (nine) and Our Miss Jones (four) will strive for a valubable victory.
