Atlantic Jewel could be back in light work by the end of the month with Mark Kavanagh reporting that the unbeaten mare is making good progression from her spring-ending injury.

The superstar daughter of Fastnet Rock is due for another scan at the end of the month and Kavanagh said early signs were that she was recovering well.

"Atlantic Jewel is about three or four weeks off having another MRI," Kavanagh said.

"Where we sit right now is, there is no swelling, there is no lameness and we can't see any sort of reason to believe that she wouldn't be back working in a couple of weeks."

Atlantic Jewel had her Spring campaign ended when she suffered an injury to the lateral branch of super flexor tendon extending to the end region of the pastern in mid-August.

It denied the four-year-old the chance to add to her record which sits at seven wins from as many starts, including Group 1 wins in the Thousand Guineas and All Aged Stakes.

Her absence leaves December Draw as Kavanagh's spring headline act and the import goes in search of back-to-back wins in the $500,000 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes this Saturday at Flemington.

The seven-year-old has had two runs back from a lengthy lay-off, the latest a tough on-pace third in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m), and Kavanagh said the return to his home track aids his quest for a return to the winner's list.

"He's in excellent order, he's about five kilos lighter than he was last week and I think he's a little tighter now," the trainer said. "He's not quite perfect but he's very forward.

"He has an excellent record at Flemington, I have left a little bit in the jar, but he will certainly run very well." (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
