All three Melbourne Cup entrants flopped in the Grosser Preis von Baden (2400m) early Monday (AEST) at Baden Baden.

The German Group 1, which provided an upset with Ivanhowe defeating Arc favourite Sea the Moon, featuredSiriusLucky Speed and Terrubi, who all hold nominations for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

But the three were never a factor with Sirius running the best to finish fifth, seven lengths behind the winner.

Lucky Speed finished ninth while French stayer Terrubi, listed to be trained by David Payne, finished at the rear of the 11-horse field.

Meanwhile, Pether’s Moon, who held an entry for the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate and attracted much interest from prospective Australian owners, won the International Bosphorus Cup at Veliefendi, Turkey.

But Pether’s Moon won’t be making the trip to Melbourne this spring as quarantine conditions do not allow him to return from Turkey to England in time to go into quarantine this Thursday. (Racing Network)
