A long-term plan by trainer Mike Moroney may be about to pay dividends with exciting Pins 3YO Rhythm To Spare

A long-term plan by trainer Mike Moroney may be about to pay dividends with exciting Pins 3YO Rhythm To Spare, reports Racing Network news.

He made his racetrack debut in New Zealand late last December and immediately showed serious ability.

Although tempted to tackle the New Zealand Derby, Moroney thought it best to wait and set him for the Queensland Derby during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

“We deliberately missed the New Zealand Derby and always thought the Queensland Derby would be well within his reach,” Moroney told Racing Network today.

Rhythm To Spare will run in Saturday’s Group 3 $150,000 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) before going straight into the Group 1 Queensland Derby two weeks later.

“That’s the plan with him and he’s really come on since winning the other day in Melbourne,” Moroney said, referring to the horse’s impressive win at Sandown on May 8.

Rhythm To Spare is unbeaten in Australia from two starts and has raced just four times for two wins and two seconds.
