Blue Diamond Stakes favorite Rubick has safely arrived in Melbourne after being floated down from Sydney overnight. Trainer Gerald Ryan says the horse arrived about 4am and was eating a biscuit of hay at 5am.

“He won’t see the course proper from now until he races on Saturday...He’s done all his fast work now leading into the race on Saturday,” Ryan said.

When asked to compare his two-year-olds of different eras, he said Rubick was right up with most of his high quality young horses.

“There’s been Hurricane Sky, Paint, Snitzel, Hinchenbrook, Snitzerland and others and he’s up there with all of them,” he added.

Ryan is not worried about the supposed Caulfield ‘curse’ for Sydney horses seeing the track for the first time.

“He’s an adaptable horse and I don’t think it will bother him,” he said.

Rubick is currently rated the $3.50 favourite for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 22.
